On Sunday, January 8, 2017 Literacy Solutions NY, Inc. hosted a “thank you brunch” at the Pearl River Hilton to express gratitude to the dedicated core of tutors who work diligently with adult students eager to increase their English literacy. Students include low literacy native English speakers, as well as new arrivals from countries around the globe. All are eager to improve their English competency, become more involved in community activities, and, for some, achieve their dream of American citizenship.
We were honored to have the opportunity to congratulate more than 75 tutors and new citizens on their accomplishments.
One of the individuals responsible for the success of the new citizens is staff member Jane Lemkin, Citizenship Specialist. Jane has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to helping immigrants achieve their goal of American citizenship. Through the years, her hard work and dedication has enabled hundreds of new arrivals to become new Americans. Literacy Solutions was proud to present Jane with a well deserved plaque to say “Thank you for all you do to help Immigrants achieve their dreams.”
Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Patricia Rajala, Literacy Solutions Pres/CEO, presented the plaque to Jane.
Rockland Legislator Harriet Cornell was in attendance, as well as staff and Literacy Solutions board members.
