Literacy Solutions’ inaugural Rockland Leaders of Vision event on May 12 was a rousing success! The beautiful View on the Hudson put on a great party for us. LSNY Board member Carolynn Julien spoke eloquently about her experience as a tutor and the meaning of education that was brought home to her through several years as an American child in Liberia. Student speakers Veronica Proano and Rochel Soffer shared their new skills in speaking and reading English.
County Executive Ed Day was our gracious honorary chair.
All our honorees were selected for their work in helping Literacy Solutions establish our Haverstraw Literacy Zone Family Welcome Center.
Lucy Redzeposki, Director of Economic Growth and Tourism for Rockland, was introduced by Deputy County Executive Guillermo Rosa. Dr. Brian Merritt, Director of Rockland Community College’s Haverstraw Center, was introduced by RCC President Dr. Cliff L. Wood.
Benito Herrero, Principal of the Haverstraw Elementary School, was introduced by North Rockland Central School District Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kris Felicello. And Marion Breland, Director of Youth and Family Services for the Village of Haverstraw, was introduced by Village of Haverstraw Mayor Michael Kohut.
We hope that this successful event will be the first of many in Rockland County!
